What is Freshers’ Week?
Freshers’ Week is run by the Students’ Union - that’s us!
Freshers’ Week gives all new students a warm welcome, the chance to settle in, meet new people and familiarise yourself with your new surroundings before the term starts. Check out everything we’ve got planned for Freshers’ Week via our Evening Events and Day Time Events pages.

What freebies can i get with the freshers’ week wristband?
All offers running from Friday 20th September 2019 – Friday 11th October 2019 unless stated otherwise.
Cineworld – £10 off first month of unlimited cinema - If the student comes into the cinema with their wrist band to sign up on our Unlimited tablet we will give them the code so they can receive the £10 off. When signing up and the student has put in all their details there will be a section at the end where they will put the code in to receive their discount. This equates to a 50% saving. The code will be valid from 24/07/2019 - 13/10/2019.
Coffee Trader – 50% off any drink (excluding alcohol).
Zapatista – 50% off food when buying a regular dish.
Zaap Thai – Free bubble tea with any main course – must show wristband, 1 per student.
The Alchemist –30% off all food during Fresher’s week.
Shark Club – 50% off wings any day, any time during the time above.
Little Green – Free cocktail or smoothie when you spend over £10.
Shijo café – Free can of pop or bottle of water with any main meal. Valid 20th – 30th September. Cannot be used in conjunction with any offer. Only valid at the Ellison branch.
El Paso – Free shot of Tequila when buying any drink – not in conjunction with any other offer.
Osbornes – Free shot when buying any drink – not in conjunction with any other offer.
Eden – Free entry to club on Friday & Saturday before midnight + 25% off food.
Antler – 20% off food – only valid Sunday 22nd Sept – Sunday 29th sept, not in conjunction with any other offer, cannot be used to purchase food for someone who does not have a wristband, bar staff reserve the right to refuse service.
Revolution – Pizza & a drink for £5 (margarita & bottle of VK or Heineken or soft drink). Not in conjunction with any other offer, no alternatives available, Food and drink for consumption on the premises, only available during the dates stated.
Apartment Group (Madame Koo’s, Florita’s, House of Smith ) – £2 Shot of Sambuca, Tequila, Sourz (usually £2.90) & 2 x Gin and Tonics for £6 on any midweek nights (usually around £4 each). Cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer, not valid after 1am, management reserve all rights, please drink responsibly.
If I decide I don’t want to go or I can’t go, can I get a refund?
Unfortunately we can’t offer refunds for Freshers’ wristbands as the events are all time specific. We will only offer refunds for those people who have purchased and don’t end up attending Northumbria University.
I’ve bought my Freshers’ wristband, when do I get it/where do I collect it?
We don’t post out Freshers’ Week wristbands; you collect them when you arrive on campus in September. When you purchase your wristband, you’ll receive a confirmation email from our team – bring this email with you, along with proof of ID, to the Welcome Desk at NSU where we’ll swap it for your wristband and entertainment guide.
Wristband Pick Up Times:
Friday 20th Sept, 10am – 9pm
Saturday 21st Sept, 12pm – 9pm
Sunday 22nd Sept, 12pm – 9pm
Please note: Wristbands are not sent out in the post. They are only available for collection at NSU at the times listed above.
I’m arriving before Freshers’ Week starts, is there anything open that I can do?
Habita, our Students’ Union bar is open from Thursday 19th September where we offer great value drinks and food. It’s the place to be on campus!
Do you have access needs and wish to attend the societies and volunteering fair accompanied?
Wednesday 25th September plays host to our Societies & Volunteering Fair where there will be over 100 stalls hosted by our own societies as well as volunteering groups and charities, and you can chat to all of them about the amazing activities and opportunities you can get involved in whilst at Northumbria. On this day, there will also be a designated 'quiet hour' from 10-11am with no music playing so if you prefer to attend when there is more space and you're able to hold a better conversation, be sure to head down early.

How do I become a member of Northumbria Students’ Union?
All registered students are automatically members of NSU.
When do I move into University Halls?
Move in days will vary to which Halls you’ll be living in – you should receive information in the post or by email to let you know when you can move in. In the meantime, if you are going to be living in University Accommodation, contact Northumbria Accommodation - email@example.com. Private halls moving in dates may vary, contact those halls directly.
What is a TOTUM card and how can I get one?
TOTUM (formerly known as NUS extra) is the #1 student discount card. Your card brings you over 200 UK student discounts and comes with 1 year FREE ISIC un-locking over 42,000 international discounts. You can buy a TOTUM card HERE. Choose from a 1 year card for just £12, a 2 year card for £22 or a 3 year card for only £32.
I’m an international student and I am having problems buying my Freshers’ pass, what do I do?
You can still purchase a wristband when you're in a different country. On the shopping cart before purchasing you will need to make an account, then you will receive an email (make sure you check your spam/junk folder) then you will have to verify your account. Your username will be the email address you registered. After this you'll be able to buy your pass. We won't be posting out the passes, you collect it when you arrive in September. I am having problems making an account when buying my Freshers’ wristband, what do I do?

I want to join a society, how do I do it?
On Wednesday 25th September 2019 we are holding the Society and Volunteering Fair in the Students’ Union, City Campus. this is where you’ll be able to join a society. Alternatively you can join a society before you arrive. CHECK OUT ALL NSU SOCIETES.
How can I meet other students?
Many of our Freshers' Week will give you the perfect opportunity to meet lots of other students who are in the same boat at you. Visit the Evening Events and Day Time Events pages to find out what events we have planned. Another way of meeting other students is to connect via our social media channels. Join us on FACEBOOK, INSTAGRAM and TWITTER.
Where can I find a map of campus or help with directions?
Campus maps can be found at NORTHUMBRIA.AC.UK. Alternatively, look out for our FRESHERS' TEAM in their pink and blue t-shirts. They'll be around campus during Freshers' Week and will be more than happy to help with directions and queries.
